It seems Velasquez has spoken to Combate Americas CEO Campbell MacLaren with regards to fighting for the promotion.
The surprising revelation was made by Tito Ortiz during a recent interview with Bloody Elbow’s Shakiel Mahjouri. Ortiz will take on former WWE Superstar Alberto El Patron in an MMA fight for Combate Americas on December 7th.
Ortiz claimed that Velasquez has shown interest in fighting the winner of his fight against El Patron.
Really, Tito?
We are highly skeptical about Ortiz’s revelation here as Velasquez recently debuted for the WWE and has signed a multi-year contract with the pro wrestling promotion.
Velasquez is fully committed to successfully transitioning to a career in pro wrestling and we’re not sure whether he would be permitted to compete outside WWE.
Even if he does get the green signal, could we see a natural heavyweight like Velasquez make the cut and move down to the Light Heavyweight division? Ortiz is even ready to have a catchweight fight at 210 pounds.
There are a lot of complications with the proposed Combate Americas fight for Velasquez and at this point, it doesn’t seem like it may ever come to fruition.
Nonetheless, Ortiz (20-12-1) has his work cut out for himself as he prepares to face Alberto El Paton (9-5) next month.
